During World War 2, Feoktistov served as an army scout. In 1942 he was captured by the Germans
and shot in front of a firing squad. He was not fatally wounded and crawled out from under dead bodies and managed to
reach Soviet troops. He later worked as an industrial engineer. Feoktistov was a leading designer for Soviet space-crafts.
His flight was on Voskhod 1, launched 12 October 1964. Along with Komarov and Yegorov, he was on the first multi-manned space-craft.
No space-suits were worn on the flight, Feoktistov is an author of several published books.
